Before any deposit or ticket
Ask for written fee, deposit, and refund language. Confirm what is tuition, what is hostel or mess, what is a one-time charge, and what is refundable if plans change.
Confirm who receives the money and on which account. Do not transfer to personal accounts of intermediaries. If someone rushes you with “pay today or lose the seat” without paperwork, stop and call the via 8 desk.
Join the counselling call. Many families join every key conversation. That is normal. Medical and engineering files especially need parents early, before deposits lock the family into a path they have not fully understood.
Housing, city, and first weeks
Clarify hostel versus PG. Ask about mess, curfew, distance from campus or workplace, and whether a roommate or buddy is arranged for week one.
Agree who greets the student on arrival and where. Write down the care WhatsApp (+91 78669 45543) before travel. After arrival you are not handed to a stranger. The same desk stays reachable in the early settle period.
Talk through homesickness and language openly. Anxiety is part of many files. Settle planning covers the first week, who to call, and how parents get updates without needing to fly down immediately.
Documents to keep in one folder
Mark sheets, government ID, entrance scorecards where relevant, passport photos, and parent ID. Exact requests appear on the application timeline after apply.
Keep both digital and printed copies for travel days. Colleges and employers often ask for originals at joining. Know which originals travel with the student and which stay at home.
Money and communication rules that reduce panic
Agree a monthly budget for living costs beyond fees. Understated budgets create shortlists that fail later.
Decide which parent is the primary contact for urgent calls. Share the dashboard login so status is not locked inside one phone that is on airplane mode during travel.
If something feels wrong after arrival (housing, fees, workplace), message the named counsellor on the file first. Founders stay reachable for messy questions that touts usually disappear from.
